Sightings for May 2009

Sunday 3rd May 2009
Dawn Chorus Sightings - After a damp start the birds rose to the occasion and put on a fabulous display of song for all who braved the rain and the 5:00am start for a guided walk around the Nature Reserve. Warblers were singing throughout the Reserve with Lesser Whitethroat, Common Whitethroat, Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler and even the elusive Grasshopper Warbler all making an appearance. Resident birds were not to be outdone and Chaffinches, Song Thrushes, Robins, Blackbirds, and Wrens were all seen perched high on the vegetation and joining in with song. Highlights of the morning included 2 Dunlin in summer plumage (Clifton Pond), 4 Shelduck, a Cuckoo and a Kingfisher.
