Construction Photographs, weeks 25-30

6 March 2005

A few days before completion, furnishings arriving, ready for final fit out and clean.

Sunday 27th February.

A bright winter's day, volunteers clearing the banks under the sides of the building. The moat and newly formed reed beds, now flooded, complete the isolation of the building from the mainland.

23rd February

Only a few days until completion. Only an hour after these pictures were taken the "muddy" reed beds and moat were flooded.

The hydraulic cylinder which will lift the first drawbridge to be installed in the area since the 1700's (we think) can be seen under the bridge structure.

Phil Songhurst (right) and Karen Bennett (2nd right) receive a cheque for £14,000 from the 7 Rotary Clubs from the Nottingham area who have kindly been fundraising for 2 years to provide funds for equipment to be used in the "Willow Den" - the classroom in the Nature Centre.

4th February 2005

Drawbridge structure and gabion walls now in place ready for the moat to be flooded. New reed beds being planted adjacent to the entrance ramp and along the side of the building.

End of week 25

A bit of a mess around the entrance ramp as the ground level is lowered to allow the moat and reed beds to be formed - whilst internally, the finishing touches are starting.

On to the opening ceremony >>>
